Nosy Mangabe Special Reserve is on a small island in the Bay of Antongil about 2 km offshore from Maroantsetra. It is a tropical rainforest preserve and lemur sanctuary. A campsite serves as base camp. The island was established as a reserve for the aye-aye, which was introduced onto the island in the 1960s. Four other species of lemur occur on the island.
